I am currently a first year veterinary student.  As part of my assessment I am required to write a report on breeding programs of Boer Goats.  I have had read through your website and was wondering if you had detailed documentation on artificial insemination,  embryo transfer programs and the genetics (bloodlines utilised).  Would it be possible for me to get a copy of this information to utilise for my report.
Electronic information can be sent to the above email address

17 June, 2010 DNA testing for goats
Simone O'Brien This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Hi, I am the president of the Miniature Goat breeders Association of Australia and I am trying to find goat groups that may be interested in DNA for their members.
I can not find any in Australia that are currently offering DNA for Goats and it is expensive to user overseas labs. I have found a contact in QLD that is set up for DNA on goats, did them in the past that I am asking to re set up for goats. I need to know if any other Groups are interested in Australia to use this service to warrent them going to the trouble.
Would the Boar Breeders be interested in DNA lab in Australia?

Thanks

30 April, 2010 Trees and shrubs for Goats

I live near the Cardwell Range in Queensland (north of Townsville) and was wanting to plant some trees or shrubs suitable for fodder; not too toxic etc.  I have looked at Gliricidia Sepium, Acacia Albida and Sesbania.  These all seems very large trees which require full sun, which I could accommodate some of, but was also looking for bushes that I could plant within my Qld scrub paddock with filtered light.  Any species of plant that you could tell me would be appreciated. The soil is variable, rocky in places and some areas are clay.  Regards, Debbie

30 April, 2010 Question about Bucks
Hi all,

just a quick question.  I have reared two of my own bucks which are only crossbreds as there father is Registered and Mother is not.  My question is - can I put a buck over does who have the same father, they are not brother and sister, but have different mothers

Hello,
I have a question for you. My parents recently bought a goat and it was only 3 years old.
My mom went in the barn to feed him today and his intestines were hanging out. They called the vet,
and he had never seen anything like this in his whole life. His intestines came out and his butt hole went inside him.
It was like turning a sock inside out. So they had to put him down, because they could not do anything for him.
I just wanted to know if you have ever heard of this before and what might have caused it.
Thanks So Much.
Monique.

31 January, 2010 interest in farming Boer Goats in Mauritius
Sandy Autard This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

I am an Australian residing in Mauritius and am currently doing a feasibility study on goat farming with a view to setting up a small farm here.  I was hoping to get some "general" prices on costs per head of goat, importing costs (I guess exporting costs from Australia and exporting requirements. Also perhaps a good starting point for the number of does versus bucks etc and the size to start a small herd.  I have done lots of reading on the internet.  Is there anybody that you can refer me to to get this type of information?  Regards Sandy Autard
