This is the first of a series of workshops to be presented by the NSW Branch of BGBAA and is aimed at helping new goat owners or those considering going into goats to improve their knowledge. Experienced owners are also welcome to attend. Whilst the content is directed toward Boer Goats the principles can be applied to all goat breeds.

THE 146th Annual Shepparton Show will be held with biosecurity measures in place, and all exhibitors will follow all biosecurity directions on the day.

The Shepparton Show will be held under current COVID-19 Restrictions at the time of the event, including the wearing of masks if required.

NLIS scanning will be conducted upon arrival.

BOER GOAT JUDGING SATURDAY 8TH 2022 commencing at 10am.

All animals to be penned by 9am Saturday.

No Parking on showgrounds, unloading/ loading only at Multi-Purpose Pavilion.

Enter via Gate 6 Archer st, exit Gate 7. Exhibitor parking available opposite showgrounds via Lisburn St.

NLIS (SHEEP & GOATS) UPDATE

Operators of agricultural shows are now required to ensure that electronic NLIS (Sheep) tags on the sheep and goats exhibited at the events that they conduct are scanned, with movements reported to the NLIS database using the 'sighted' function.

NLIS TAGS does not apply to Dairy Goats.

INTERSTATE SHEEP AND GOATS

Interstate sheep and goats entering Victoria to attend an agricultural show or similar event must be identified with a visually readable NLIS

(Sheep) tag, acccording to the rules of the state or territory from which they originate. Interstate sheep or goats leaving a show, regardless of their destination, will not require an electronic NLIS (Sheep) tag. There is no plan tc remove this electronic NLIS (Sheep) tagging exemption

for interstate sheep and goats entering Victoria to attend a show or similar event.

ONE DAY WORKSHOP THURSDAY 12 MAY 2022

PACIFICA BOER GOAT STUD EUGOWRA NSW

Danie and his brother Johan Strauss are the proud owners of the Rietkuil Boer Goat Stud, 959.

Handed down from their parents, the stud has been operating for almost 30 years. The Rietkuil Boer Goat Studs principles are, to breed for correctness, balance, and animals that carry lots of meat and are good on their legs. The Bucks to be muscular, does to be feminine. The stud has done well over the past few years, having bred the current World Junior Champion Buck, which was also the World Reserve Grand Champion Buck.

The Breeders workshop will involve a theory session to start the day before heading out to work with the goats. The group will actively work with the animals, learning how apply the Breed Standard and the knowledge required to select sound animals for breeding. Dr Tess Bailey of Lachlan Valley Vets will attend and answer all your goat health questions The workshop is suited to new or prospective breeders as well as the more experienced. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions
